Botox (short for Botulinum toxin) is a drug which is used to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines. This is an injectable drug. Typically this gives a naturally more radiant and younger look, by reducing the facial wrinkles.
Dermal Fillers provide structure and support, where it lacks. This plumps the skin, providing renewed facial contours and a younger looking complexion. Dermal Fillers are manmade, synthetic substances that mimics the body’s depleted levels of hyaluronic acid.
Botox is a muscle relaxant and like dermal fillers, injected into the skin but it works by relaxing the different facial muscles so that folds of skin don’t push against each other and create the appearance of wrinkles. This only works on wrinkles that appear solely when the facial muscles are tensed, mainly around the mouth and forehead.
In contrast dermal fillers are used at a much later stage and work by filling the creases and wrinkles themselves once they have been established in the skin. This is accomplished by injected hyaluronic acid and collagen into the skin which pushes the skin upwards and flattens it out.
A numbing cream wil be applied to the treatement area, to reduce discomfort. Botox® and Dermal Fillers are injected with a fine needle into specific muscles with only minor discomfort. The whole procedure only takes minutes.
Discomfort is very minimal and brief. Your aesthetic practitioner may apply a local anaesthetic to reduce the discomfort. Once the procedure is complete there is usually no discomfort on the treated area.
We will perform a post treatment review at 2-3 weeks after treatment for all our procedures, ensuring desired results are subtle and as per expectations.
There is no down time. However strenuous activity (i.e. exercising or lifting) should be avoided for at least 48 hours.
Typically Botox® will last three to six months. Optimum results will be achieved by 2 weeks after the treatment. Eventually, the injected muscle action gradually returns.
Depending on the type of filler used, the effects can last between 6-18 months.
Chemical peels give clearer, more youthful looking skin. Acids and enzymes exfoliate away layers of the skin to reveal fresher, younger looking skin. Skin peels remove dead skin cells, reduce pigmentation, blemishes and acne, reduce the appearance of open pores, and smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
