FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We have put together some an FAQ below. If your need further details or have a specific query about treatment you have had, please call us to discuss this further.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTOX & DERMAL FILLERS?

Botox is a muscle relaxant and like dermal fillers, injected into the skin but it works by relaxing the different facial muscles so that folds of skin don’t push against each other and create the appearance of wrinkles. This only works on wrinkles that appear solely when the facial muscles are tensed, mainly around the mouth and forehead.

In contrast dermal fillers are used at a much later stage and work by filling the creases and wrinkles themselves once they have been established in the skin. This is accomplished by injected hyaluronic acid and collagen into the skin which pushes the skin upwards and flattens it out.

WRINKLE SMOOTHING INJECTIONS

Wrinkle smoothing tratemenst involve using injections. Injections are non surgical treatments that smooth the deep, persistent facial lines that develop over time.

How is a wrinkle injection administered?
The procedure takes about 10 minutes. A numbing cream wil be applied to the treatement area, to reduce discomfort.

Does it hurt?
Discomfort is very minimal and brief. Your doctor may apply a local anaesthetic to reduce the discomfort. Once the procedure is complete there is usually no discomfort on the treated area.

Is there any downtime & what should I avoid?
You can return to work almost immediately. However you should avoid the massaging the treatment area (to avoid the product spreading) for up to 6 hours. Also exercise should be avoided for up to 6 hours also

DERMAL FILLERS

What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers, are known as “injectables” or “soft-tissue fillers”. They fill in the area under the skin. Some fillers are natural and some are synthetic, but they all work to improve the appearance of ageing skin.

How do dermal fillers work?
Dermal fillers is that they have a ‘plumping’ effect. This means that they will plump-up the area which has received the injection, levelling it with other parts of the skin and making it look plumped out, even and no longer sunken.

How long do dermal fillers last?
Dermal Fillers treatment can and should last between six and nine months. After 6-12 months the Dermal Filler effects will appear to weaken until your skin returns to it’s pre-treatment state.

How is a wrinkle injection administered?
The procedure takes about 10 minutes. A numbing cream wil be applied to the treatement area, to reduce discomfort.

What can I expect after the procedure?
After the Dermal Fillers procedure expect a mild pain around the bruises and the puncture marks from the injections, over a few days.

Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers are regarded as a safe aesthetic procedure. If you have any known allergies or you take any medicine or have a condition which makes you more sensitive to the procedure it is very important you consider the risks before having the treatment. You should discuss this with your aesthetic doctor.
